Electricity supply in the final months of the year: Many challenges
Faced with numerous objective difficulties, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has determined that its electricity supply task in the last six months of the year will encounter many challenges.

In the last six months of the year, there will be two periods of gas supply cuts to thermal power plants in the South, putting strain on the supply. In September 2013, the Nam Con Son gas supply also stopped from September 7th to 16th, affecting the local electricity supply for the region.
During the fourth quarter, hydropower plants in the southern region also had to prepare to ensure maximum water storage, ready to supply electricity to the South during the 2014 dry season.
Given these objective characteristics and difficulties, EVN's power generation and grid operation in the last months of 2013 will face challenges. This is especially true for transmission on the 500 kV North-South transmission line system.
In July 2013, EVN projected the total system load to reach 384 million kWh/day, with the peak load fluctuating between 19,900 and 20,100 MW.
EVN has directed transmission and distribution companies to proactively develop plans to ensure the safe operation of the 220-500 kV power grid, especially the 500 kV North-South transmission line.
