The 2018 US Senate election could be a contest between members of America's two largest political families.

If rumors of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand running for President in 2020 are true, the candidates running for her New York seat will include two first daughters: Chelsea Clinton and Caroline Kennedy.

“What you saw was the beginning of Chelsea Clinton’s political career,” a source with close ties to both the Hillary and Kennedy families told the New York Daily News.

Chelsea has been involved in a Twitter war with President Trump's spokeswoman, Kellyanne Conway. On a national television show, the 36-year-old former First Daughter criticized Conway for inciting fear when discussing terrorist attacks.

Additionally, Chelsea also appears to be actively sharing and retweeting messages about the current administration on her own Twitter account.

Gillibrand took over the New York Senate seat after Hillary Clinton left to become Secretary of State. Some Democrats speculated that Gillibrand's strong opposition to the current president would prompt her to run for the White House in 2020. If she did, her Senate seat would be vacant.

Neither Chelsea nor Caroline have indicated any intention of running for the position at this time. However, in 2009, the daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy and granddaughter of New York Senator Robert F. Kennedy expressed interest in the Senate seat left vacant after Hillary became Secretary of State.

Caroline Kennedy, 59 years old, has just finished her term as US Ambassador to Japan.

In 2015, mother of two Chelsea also said that she would consider running for office one day.
