Leaving home to escape a tragic marriage
Singer Ai Van was born into a family with an artistic tradition. Her mother is Cai Luong artist Ai Lien, her father is Mr. Ha Quang Dinh - one of the first private film studio owners in Vietnam... With a solid foundation, the female singer received full support from her parents when pursuing singing.
She graduated from the Hanoi Conservatory of Music and became a successful pop singer in the North. At that time, her voice was highly appreciated for its technique, uniqueness and was regularly broadcast on the city's radio stations.

Although widely loved by the public in her home country, Ai Van surprised everyone when she went to Germany to study stage directing under a contract between the two countries. However, in November 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall caused many obstacles that interrupted her dream.
“I have high expectations for the trip because I don’t want to be a performing artist forever. I want to be a stage director after I retire or my singing career is no longer what it used to be. Before that, I won an award at the Dresden International Music Festival, so the German art world also knows me,” said famous singer Ai Van.
However, she said she seemed to collapse when she heard that her study abroad plan was "impossible" due to the changes in the German system. "I was shocked after spending a whole year hoping for my future plans. Plus, my love life was so tragic. I had no way out so I decided to take sleeping pills to commit suicide. In fact, studying abroad was just one of many reasons why the female singer suddenly gave up the spotlight. The tragic marriage made her desperate when she could not find freedom for herself.
She choked up as she talked about her ex-husband: “My love life was very bumpy. He was very talented and capable, but when it came to marriage, things were different. When he was happy, he was fine, but when he wasn’t happy, he treated me like nothing, like a dog or cat in the house.”
“As an artist, I don’t want my private life to be exposed, nor do I want people to treat me differently than on stage. I think the best way is to break up. If we can’t break up peacefully, I have to run away. That’s why I left Vietnam when my career was at its peak,” the singer added.

Suffering from a serious illness, he was devastated because he lost all his hair.
Later, when the situation stabilized, she was lucky enough to go to Germany but still had to leave her 4-year-old son in Vietnam. However, when East Germany and West Germany merged, the singer's school had to stop operating. Ai Van said she seemed to collapse before the irony of fate.
After that, the singer decided to “cross the border” from East Germany to West Germany to find opportunities for herself. At that time, she admitted that she was lucky to “cross the border” smoothly and was allowed to live in a refugee camp by the Government.
The opportunity came when Ai Van was recognized by an overseas Vietnamese and invited to sing in a program organized by him and his wife. At this time, singer Duy Khanh also came from Vietnam, so the two performed together at a bar. From here, she started singing again and quickly achieved great success in the overseas market.

The spotlight once again came to Ai Van when a show producer introduced her to Thuy Nga Center. After hearing her voice, this side invited her to cooperate and helped her life turn a new page. In 1994, artist Ai Van and her new husband settled in the US. Here, she also often transformed into many characters in famous plays and stories of Vietnamese folklore.

Currently, she is living a comfortable life with her family in the US.
