Historic talks between mainland China and Taiwan.
On February 11, mainland China and Taiwan held their highest-level talks since Taiwan separated from mainland China 65 years ago, a historic and symbolic move marking the first official contact between the two sides of the strait.
Accordingly, Wang Yu-chi, the Taiwanese official in charge of policy toward China, will meet with his mainland counterpart, Zhang Zhi-jun, for talks expected to last until February 14th.

The meeting, taking place in Nanjing, is the culmination of years of efforts to normalize relations and will be the highest-level contact between the two sides since 1949, when China ended its civil war.
Although the official agenda for the meeting has not been announced, Wang Yuqi said last month that the talks "will have an important impact on further institutionalizing relations between the two sides."
