In his opinion, the first scenario entails Russia controlling most of the Donbass region with its “main industrial and agricultural zones”, as well as “a strip of land along the Black Sea”, which would be a “victory for Moscow”.

"In this case, NATO's role will not be as decisive as previously thought," Kissinger commented.

The second scenario, according to the US politician, involves an attempt to "push Russia" out of Crimea, a land that was united with the country long before the start of the special operation. The former US Secretary of State believes that this scenario could lead to an escalation of the conflict.

The third scenario, the publication's interlocutor suggests, assumes a return to the situation as it was before February 24. "Unresolved issues could be discussed at the negotiating table. The situation could be frozen for a while," he said.

Russia has been conducting military operations in Ukraine since February 24. According to the Ministry of Defense, the Russian army has completed the main tasks of the first phase - significantly depleting Ukraine's combat potential. The main goal of the operation, as defined by the Ministry of Defense, is to liberate Donbass.
