In a house not far away, Ms. La Thi Xai (born in 1991) is sitting with her two children on a makeshift staircase. The woman shared that she got married at the age of 15. She currently has 5 children. Apart from the one she is holding in her arms and the baby sitting next to her who is not old enough to go to school, the others are all in school. Dan Lai women in Bung village have a hard life. Having many children leaves them little time at home. Women often have to go to the forest to pick bamboo shoots, collect forest products, and work in the fields. Hard work and little attention to health care make many of them look older than their age.
