A ride with a delivery fee… 20 years in prison.
Hong agreed to transport multiple packages of drugs because she was greedy for the 20 million VND shipping fee. She hid the drugs in various places on her motorbike but was still discovered by the police and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
On September 11th, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a first-instance trial to hear the case against defendant Le Van Hong (born in 1979), residing in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district (Nghe An province), for the crime of "Illegal trafficking of narcotics"
According to the indictment, around the beginning of April 2024, while Hong was mowing grass by the roadside, she met an unknown man. This man hired Hong to transport one block of heroin and eight packets of methamphetamine from Tri Le commune to Nghia Khanh commune, Nghia Dan district, for a fee of 20 million VND. Greedy for the money, Hong agreed.

On the evening of April 9th, following instructions from her employer, Hong went to the garbage dump near her house to receive the drugs. After checking them, Hong put the drugs back in their original place and returned home.
By noon on April 12th, Hong was transporting drugs. To evade detection by authorities, Hong removed the front frame of the motorcycle to hide one package of drugs. He also removed the fairing to conceal the remaining packages of drugs.
After that, Hong rode her motorbike to Kim Son town, Que Phong district, and then took a passenger car carrying people and motorbikes down to Nghia Dan district.
As Le Van Hong was preparing to drive his motorbike to the agreed-upon location to deliver the drugs, he was arrested by the police along with the evidence, which included over 523 grams of narcotics.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant stated that he agreed to transport the drugs for hire because he was greedy for the 20 million VND. However, he had not yet received that money.
The defendant cited difficult family circumstances, having to single-handedly support his elderly mother and mentally ill younger brother, which led him to transport drugs despite knowing it was against the law.
Previously, in 2018, Hong was sentenced to 36 months in prison for illegally trafficking narcotics.
After a comprehensive review of the case, the court sentenced Le Van Hong to 20 years in prison for illegally transporting narcotics.
