Robbed of $3 million worth of jewelry in 10 seconds

Three robbers escaped on a motorbike after stealing more than $3 million worth of jewelry from a busy shopping district in Hong Kong.

Two men used a hammer to smash the window of Chow Sang Sang on the ground floor of Silvercord Shopping Mall in Canton Road at 10am on September 19. After taking the jewellery, they jumped on a motorbike belonging to a third man who was waiting outside and escaped. The incident lasted for 10 seconds, according to SCMP.

"The stolen property included a diamond necklace, jade earrings, a diamond bracelet and several diamond rings," a police spokesman said.

Frances Lee King-hei, chief inspector of Yau Tsim district police, said the nine stolen items were worth HK$24 million ($3.075 million). The getaway motorbike had no number plates. They left an empty suitcase and a paper bag at the scene.

Police suspect the men are not of Chinese origin. Two were wearing masks and hats, the third was wearing a motorcycle helmet.Hong Kong police have yet to catch the three men. They are examining security cameras in areas around Silvercord, one of the island's busiest shopping malls.
