Nghe An veterans strive to continue being the backbone of grassroots movements

Attending the Congress, on the side of Nghe An province, there were comrades: Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; comrades of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee; representatives of leaders of departments, branches, sectors and organizations. On the side of Military Region 4, there were Major General Ha Tan Tien - Deputy Commander of the Military Region; representatives of departments and offices of the Military Region. Attending the Congress were representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and hundreds of members of the Provincial Veterans Association. |
Over the past 5 years, under the direction of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association and the direct leadership and direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels; the support and coordination of departments, branches, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations at all levels, cadres and members of the Nghe An Provincial Veterans Association have been united, proactive, creative, achieving and exceeding most of the targets set by the Resolution of the 5th Provincial Veterans Association Congress.
Accordingly, the Association has well performed its top important task of participating in building and protecting the Party, government, socialist regime, and protecting the people; actively and effectively participating in local movements and campaigns, especially the movement "All people protect national security"; the movement "Exemplary war veterans, join hands and unite to build new rural areas".
During the past term, the entire provincial Association undertook 930 projects worth more than 40.5 billion VND; 84,233 war veteran families donated more than 3.6 million square meters of land; 203,689 members donated 471,608 working days and other assets worth more than 260.5 billion VND.
The movement of “Veterans helping each other reduce poverty, do good business, and get rich legally” is increasingly going into depth. Every year, 26.6% - 47.2% of enterprises have an income of 100 million VND or more; 14.3% of farms have an income of 50 million VND or more.

Over the past 5 years, the Association has eliminated 958 makeshift and dilapidated houses. The number of poor war veteran households according to the new criteria is 3.54%, lower than the local average rate; there are 68.59% of well-off and rich households (an increase of 7.44% compared to 2012); 85 communes, wards, towns and 6 districts, towns and cities (Nam Dan, Nghi Loc, Do Luong, Thai Hoa town, Cua Lo, Vinh city) have basically eliminated all poor war veteran households.
Activities of “Repaying gratitude”, “Drinking water, remembering its source”, visiting and showing gratitude to families of martyrs, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and families with meritorious services to the country have become regular activities and achieved good results at all levels of the Association, with a total amount of nearly 13.9 billion VND. Officials and members have provided 1,253 pieces of information about martyrs’ graves, contributing to the search, exhumation, and collection of remains at martyrs’ cemeteries.
In addition, members of the provincial Veterans Association have coordinated well in educating the younger generation; building a politically, ideologically and organizationally strong Association with new developments; and implementing well Directive 03 of the Politburo on continuing to promote studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh.

However, the political report and review report of the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of the Veterans Association at the Congress also frankly pointed out the limitations and shortcomings. These are the coordination to grasp the situation; advising local leaders to handle some cases at the grassroots level, sometimes not timely, not very effective; the results of participation in fighting corruption and negativity in some units are not really clear; the scale of economic models in many places is still limited, the spread is not large; the quality of activities, content and forms of activities of some Association organizations, especially at the grassroots level are not specific, practical...
In the 2017-2022 term, the Provincial Association of War Veterans aims to continue to encourage war veterans to constantly promote the nature and tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers"; be loyal - united - exemplary - innovative; build a clean and strong Association; excellently complete the political tasks of the Association and the tasks assigned by the Party Committee, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 18th Nghe An Provincial Party Congress.

Speaking at the Congress, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh affirmed that the Party Committee and government highly appreciated the activities and contributions of the Association in recent times.
At the same time, it is emphasized that the Association needs to continue to thoroughly grasp and organize cadres and members to well perform the top important political task of resolutely protecting the achievements of the revolution, actively participating in building and protecting the Party, the State, protecting the regime and the great national unity bloc; having solutions to sustainably reduce the rate of poor war veteran households, improve the lives of war veterans in all areas, especially mountainous, remote, isolated and border areas.
Besides, it is necessary to regularly coordinate and do a good job of mass mobilization work, effectively participate in local movements and campaigns; and carry out well the task of educating patriotism for the young generation.

The Provincial Party Secretary also requested that Party committees and authorities from the provincial to grassroots levels strengthen leadership, direction, and orientation of activities, create favorable conditions for the Veterans Association at all levels to contribute opinions and supervise the implementation of Party resolutions and State policies and laws; direct departments, branches, sectors, and mass organizations to build relationships and coordinate activities with the Veterans Association, creating a combined strength to carry out political tasks of localities and units.
