Former BIDV Bank Chairman Tran Bac Ha passed away

Former BIDV Bank Chairman Tran Bac Ha died on the night of July 17, while on his way to Military Hospital 105 (Son Tay, Hanoi) for emergency treatment.

Previously, Mr. Tran Bac Ha was detained. Former BIDV Chairman Tran Bac Ha had suffered from liver disease for many years.

In November 2018, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency (C03) issued decisions to prosecute and execute arrest and search warrants against Mr. Tran Bac Ha, former Chairman of BIDV, to investigate the crime of violating regulations on banking activities and other activities related to banking activities as prescribed in Article 206 of the 2015 Penal Code.

Also prosecuted with Mr. Ha at that time were defendants Tran Luc Lang (former deputy general director of BIDV), Kieu Dinh Hoa (former director of BIDV Ha Tinh Branch) and Le Thi Van Anh (former head of corporate customer department of BIDV Ha Tinh Branch).

This prosecution aims to investigate violations related to lending capital to a cattle breeding project in Ha Tinh, causing losses of hundreds of billions of dong.

Then, on January 8, 2019, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency (C03) issued a Decision to supplement the Decision to prosecute the criminal case No. 01/C03-P13 on the crime of "Abuse of trust to appropriate property" occurring at BIDV Bank, Ha Thanh Branch, Trung Dung Trading and Tourism Company Limited related to Mr. Tran Bac Ha and accomplices.

Regarding Mr. Tran Bac Ha, the investigation agency supplemented the Decision to prosecute the accused for the crime of "Violating regulations on banking activities and other activities related to banking activities" with violations related to the approval of credit granting to Trung Dung Trading and Tourism Company Limited.

Mr. Tran Bac Ha (born in 1956 in Binh Dinh) joined BIDV in 1981, when he was only 25 years old with a bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting. After 10 years, Mr. Ha became Director of BIDV Binh Dinh Branch. During his 35 years working at BIDV, Mr. Ha has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for 8 years and 8 months.

In June 2018, Mr. Ha was disciplined and expelled from the Party due to many violations determined by the Central Inspection Committee as "very serious", including approving a loan policy of 4,700 billion related to the case at the Vietnam Construction Bank (VNCB).
