Former police officer investigated for opening room door to change exam scores in Son La

Previously, on July 31, the investigation agency prosecuted 6 defendants including: Mr. Tran Xuan Yen (Deputy Director of Son La Department of Education, Vice Chairman of the Examination Council, Head of the Multiple-choice Test Scoring Team); Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nga (specialist of the Examination and Quality Management Department, member of the Multiple-choice Test Scoring Team); Cam Thi Bun Son (Deputy Head of the Political and Ideological Department, member of the Multiple-choice Test Scoring Team); Dang Huu Thuy (Vice Principal of To Hieu High School, member of the Multiple-choice Test Scoring Team); Lo Van Huynh (Deputy Head of the Examination Department, member of the Steering Committee, Member of the Examination Council, Head of the Secretariat); Nguyen Thanh Nhan (42 years old, Deputy Head of the Examination and Quality Management Department of Son La Department of Education and Training) to investigate violations at the 2018 National High School Examination Council of Son La province.

These 6 people were prosecuted for the crime.Taking advantage of position and power while performing official duties, according to Article 356 of the 2015 Penal Code.

Authorities accused that, in addition to directly correcting test papers and raising scores for multiple-choice subjects for candidates, the defendants Nga, Huynh and Ms. Nhan also provided the key to the essay marking department to raise scores for the Literature subject.

Son La has more than 10,300 candidates taking the national high school exam in 2018, the average score of all subjects is 4.21, the lowest in the country. However, the percentage of candidates scoring 9 or higher in Math and Physics in the province far exceeds some localities with a tradition of good learning. When investigating, the investigation agency discovered that many multiple-choice test papers had signs of being erased before sending the original test data files to the Ministry of Education.
