Former Director of Bach Mai Hospital Nguyen Quoc Anh appeared in court

Today (January 20), Hanoi People's Court brought Mr. Nguyen Quoc Anh (former Director of Bach Mai Hospital) and his accomplices to trial for the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties".

In addition to the former Director of Bach Mai Hospital, 7 other people must appear in court, including: Nguyen Ngoc Hien (former Deputy Director); Trinh Thi Thuan (Chief Accountant, Head of Finance and Accounting Department); Ly Thi Ngoc Thuy (Deputy Head of Finance and Accounting Department); Pham Duc Tuan (founding shareholder, former Chairman of the Board of Directors, Director of BMS Medical Technology Company); Ngo Thu Huyen (former Deputy Director of BMS Company); Tran Le Hoang (former appraiser of Hanoi Valuation and Financial Services Joint Stock Company - VFS) and Phan Minh Dung (former General Director of VFS Company).

Of these, only defendants Quoc Anh and Hien were detained, the remaining defendants were released on bail.

The trial is expected to last two days, with Judge Chu Phuong Ngoc presiding.

Representatives of the Hanoi People's Procuracy attending the trial included Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Huyen (senior prosecutor) and Ms. Hoang Thi Dung (intermediate prosecutor).

According to the indictment, during the process of implementing the project and signing joint venture and association contracts at Bach Mai Hospital, Mr. Quoc Anh and other defendants took advantage of their functions, duties and powers to perform in violation of the provisions of the law.

Defendants Tran Le Hoang and Phan Minh Dung were determined to have issued a valuation certificate determining the value of the Rosa Robot at 39 billion VND, contrary to regulations, creating conditions for BMS Medical Technology Joint Stock Company to participate in a joint venture and cooperate in installing the Rosa Robot at an unrealistic value of 39 billion VND.

This is to bring profits to the collective and Mr. Quoc Anh personally of more than 331 million VND.

Defendant Nguyen Ngoc Hien was determined to have benefited 150 million VND; Trinh Thi Thuan benefited 50 million VND. In this case, the consequences were determined to be increased treatment costs, causing damage to patients of more than 10 billion VND.

The accusation is that Mr. Quoc Anh played a key role, being the one who decided to let Bach Mai Hospital and BMS Company sign a joint venture contract. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of BMS Company gave Mr. Quoc Anh 400 million VND and 10,000 USD.

Defendant Pham Duc Tuan played an active supporting role, creating conditions for Bach Mai Hospital to sign the contract. The other defendants played the role of accomplices in the execution.
