Former teacher in Nghe An 'delivered' drugs in Hanoi

Hanoi City Police have just arrested Ho Xuan Long (born 1958), residing in Con Cuong district, Nghe An, while he was transporting 5 heroin cakes at Nuoc Ngam Bus Station (Hanoi).

Ho Xuan Long used to be a diligent official in the education sector. He used to be a teacher, then worked his way up to become the principal of a primary school in Con Cuong district, and then a specialist at the district Education Department.

In 1996, Ho Xuan Long invited a neighbor to the Department of Education of Con Cuong district (Nghe An province), successfully stole a safe, and appropriated more than 500 million VND.

In 1997, the Supreme People's Court in Hanoi sentenced Ho Xuan Long to life in prison.

During his time in prison, Long showed himself to be a conscientious prisoner, participating in teaching other prisoners, and was well-regarded by prison officers. Thanks to that, after 15 years in prison, Ho Xuan Long had his sentence reduced and completed his prison term in 2012.

After being released from prison, Long did many different jobs and always maintained a neat style, intellectual appearance, dressed like a "cadre" with white glasses and a briefcase by his side.

No one around him expected that Long, a person who had been sentenced to life in prison for 15 years, could continue to commit a more serious crime - accepting to transport drugs from Con Cuong district to Hanoi for consumption.

When arrested in Hanoi, Long confessed that he had held the position of Acting Head of the Con Cuong District Education Department. However, at that time, he was only a specialist in the department, in charge of educational equipment.

Long confessed that if he successfully delivered the goods, he would be paid 15 million VND/heroin cake.

The case is currently under investigation.
