Former Miss Venezuela dies at age 28
Eva Ekvall, the third runner-up in the Miss Universe 2001 pageant and Miss Venezuela 2000, passed away in Houston, USA on December 17th after battling cancer for over a year.
Yesterday, December 17th, her representative confirmed the information to the press: "She was extraordinarily calm when she discovered she had a terminal illness and bravely fought it."

Eva Ekvall discovered she had cancer shortly after giving birth to her first child. Last year, she released a book titled "Out of Focus" to share her battle with the disease shortly after her cancer diagnosis. In her first and only book, she wrote: "Now I understand what it feels like to have no hair left on your head."
Eva Ekvall, born in 1983 in Venezuela, has a mixed heritage. Her father is American but grew up in Sweden and Hungary. Her mother is Jamaican. Ekvall's mother ran a small modeling agency when they met, and they decided to get married. Ekvall also has a younger brother.
In 2007, seven years after winning the Miss Venezuela pageant and enjoying a successful career in the fashion industry, Ekvall decided to get married. Her husband was radio producer John Fabio Bermúdez. Nearly two years after their wedding, they welcomed their first daughter, named Miranda. Just a year later, the beautiful Ekvall discovered she had breast cancer.
She underwent eight months of chemotherapy. In early 2011, the former Miss Venezuela released her first book, sharing the emotions and pain she endured during her diagnosis and treatment. On December 17th, the beauty queen passed away in her hospital bed in the US at the age of 28, surrounded by friends and family.
Ekvall is one of the highly-regarded beauties in terms of education. She holds a university degree in Communications from Santa Maria University in Caracas. She is also fluent in Spanish and English. She has also appeared on television numerous times.
Eva Ekvall is considered one of the most multi-talented beauties, possessing both beauty and intelligence.
