(Baonghean.vn) - Although they differ in age, hometown, work location and professional qualifications, what they have in common is their commitment to examining and treating people in remote areas. These medical staff are recognized for their dedication and enthusiasm for the health and lives of patients in disadvantaged areas.

A unique birth

In his spare time, Mr. Lo Hong Minh (born in 1949) in Cha Luan village, Ngoc Lam commune (Thanh Chuong) takes out his old medical equipment to look at, and old memories suddenly come flooding back. The equipment includes 2 large syringes, more than 10 needles and a clamp stored in an aluminum box. It has been with him for almost the entire journey of more than 20 years of treating and saving people.

“After completing a 6-month intensive training program, I was assigned to work at the Luan Mai Commune Health Station (Tuong Duong). At that time, transportation was difficult, life was extremely difficult, and people's awareness was very limited, so I encountered many obstacles in my work,” Mr. Minh recalled.

At that time (1986), Luan Mai commune had not yet been divided into 3 communes as it is today (including Luan Mai, Nhon Mai and Mai Son), so the area was very large. Traveling was mainly by foot and by wooden boats rowed by human power. When sick, people did not have the habit of going to the doctor, they mainly took medicine from traditional healers or invited shamans to perform rituals to "exorcise ghosts".
