Previously, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan was prosecuted, temporarily detained and determined to have brokered bribes, receiving 42.8 billion VND for"run the sentence"for two people in the "rescue flight" incident.
According to the accusation, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan has no function or duty in investigating and handling the case handled by the Ministry of Public Security's Security Investigation Agency. With the aim of helping individuals Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang (General Director of Blue Sky Travel Company) and Le Hong Son (Deputy General Director of this company) not be criminally prosecuted, from January 2022 to December 2022, Mr. Tuan agreed to act as an intermediary and received money from Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang.
After that, Mr. Tuan contacted, met, influenced, and gave money to Hoang Van Hung (former police officer) to "take care" of Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang and Le Hong Son so that they would not be criminally prosecuted. The Security Investigation Agency assessed that Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan's actions, in essence, had sufficient elements to constitute the crime of Bribery Brokerage.
The investigation results determined that the defendant Nguyen Anh Tuan received a total of more than 2.6 million USD from Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang. Mr. Tuan stated that he used 400,000 USD and gave Mr. Hoang Van Hung over 2.2 million USD to “take care” of Hang and Son so that they would not be criminally prosecuted.
However, based on the investigation results, the Security Investigation Agency determined that there was only enough evidence to conclude that Mr. Hoang Van Hung received 800,000 USD from Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang through Nguyen Anh Tuan to “take care” of Hang and Son so that they would not be criminally prosecuted. The authorities did not have enough evidence to conclude that Mr. Hung received the remaining 1.4 million USD. Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan must be responsible for this amount.
The Security Investigation Agency determined that the defendant Nguyen Anh Tuan's actions constituted the crime of Bribery Brokerage, with the bribery brokerage amount being 2.65 million USD (equivalent to nearly 62 billion VND). Of which, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan must be responsible for the amount of 1.85 million USD (equivalent to nearly 42.8 billion VND).
During the investigation, the defendant Nguyen Anh Tuan honestly confessed his actions and those of related individuals, helping the Security Investigation Agency clarify many details of the case. In addition, the defendant's family paid compensation of 460,000 USD.
Previously, at the 25th session, from January 10 to 12, the Central Inspection Committee decided to expel Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan from the Party due to violations and shortcomings in leadership and direction in the implementation of COVID-19 prevention and control work and receiving Vietnamese citizens returning home during the pandemic.
