The recent clash between French and British fishermen in the English Channel over scallop fishing showed that Britain lacks the vessels to protect its territorial waters, he said, and that the situation would be “catastrophic” after the country leaves the EU.
Alan West also believes that this situation also shows shortcomings in the organization of military agencies. According to him, giving orders to these ships is done by different units, while coordination should be done by a command center.
"However, in this command center, there is no commander who can order government agencies to perform certain actions, so the center cannot properly execute orders," - the former soldier said.
Mr West also added that when Britain leaves the EU, London will have to patrol its own exclusive economic zone, which with the current situation in the Navy, will sooner or later lead to "disaster".
