According to Schroeder, the job of chairing the Board of Directors of a Russian oil company — is "an interesting challenge", and there, money is not particularly important.
"And you know, if I were on the board of directors of an American company, and not a Russian one, then probably everyone would say: yes, that's great. There is a bit of hypocrisy in this criticism," he remarked.
Schroeder stressed that he has good relations with "Rosneft" and Russia in general - for the benefit of Europe and Germany will eventually feel its benefits.
The Rheinische Post journalist noted that Rosneft is under sanctions. Schroeder responded that he is against the sanctions and that, in his opinion, they will eventually be lifted.
The former Prime Minister also affirmed that he and President Putin are friends.
"Yes, it is. And it will be. I trust Vladimir Putin," he said.
Schroeder explains that friendship means being able to share your opinions and dare to express criticism, but only directly face to face.
In Schroeder's view, rapprochement between Russia and Germany is impossible without Putin.
"Managing Russia is not an easy task. First of all, you should start from the fact that after Putin it will not be better. A step towards rapprochement is the gradual elimination of mutual sanctions," he clarified.
