Trinidad & Tobago striker Shahdon Winchester has died at the age of 27 after a car crash in his home country.

On Thursday (December 19), on the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway in Trinidad & Tobago, Shahdon Winchester’s car crashed into a public telephone pole and caught fire. Notably, after the collision, the pole fell straight onto the car and created a large fire.According to local police, in addition to the 27-year-old striker, his girlfriend and two other men in the car also died.

Immediately after the incident, the fire department was called to the scene to put out the fire and remove the victims' bodies. Winchester left behind a 3-year-old daughter.

The Trinidad & Tobago Football Federation's Twitter page announced the death of Shahdon Winchester: "Heartbreaking tragedy. Striker Shahdon Winchester has been confirmed as one of the victims of a traffic accident on the morning of December 19 in Gasparillo. This is very sad news for us. May he rest in peace." FIFA also sent condolences to Winchester's relatives: "We send our deepest condolences to the family, friends and teammates of Shahdon Winchester following the accident that resulted in his death."

Shahdon Winchester was born on January 8, 1992. In January 2012, he came to Vietnam to play for SLNA on loan from W Connection Club (Trinidad & Tobago). However, this striker was not allowed to play in any V-League match due to legal problems (Winchester's playing license was granted after the transfer window had closed). He then returned to play for W Connection and together with the club won the Trinidad & Tobago national championship in the 2011-2012 season.

During his career, Winchester also played for many other clubs in Finland, Mexico, Azerbaijan. He played 23 matches for the Trinidad & Tobago national team and scored 6 goals. The last time Winchester played for the Trinidad & Tobago team was the match against Guyana at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup in June (1-1 draw).
