On April 23, Binh Chanh District Police (HCMC) announced that after many days of investigation, Binh Chanh District Police arrested suspect Nguyen Minh Dung (born 1982, residing in Binh Chanh) to clarify the acts of "intentionally causing injury" and "illegal detention".
Dung is said to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping, beating, and torture of a 6-month pregnant girl, causing her to miscarry because of a debt of 1.6 million VND that the victim's brother borrowed from Dung.
Binh Chanh District Police arrested Dung while he was hiding in a hotel in Binh Tan District on the night of April 22. Dung initially confessed to all his actions. Binh Chanh District Police continued to investigate Dung's younger sister, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen (born in 1991, residing in Binh Chanh), who is related to the above incident.
Previously, Tran Thi Suong (born in 1963) and Tran Nhat Khang (born in 2000) were arrested for participating in the arrest and torture of the victim. Binh Chanh District Police initiated a case and temporarily detained Khang.

The case was initially determined that HNY (born 2001, from Long An) had a business relationship with Dung and Huyen. Dung said that Y had repeatedly deceived him, leading to conflicts. In addition, Y's brother borrowed 1.6 million VND from Dung and once Y's brother broke Dung's motorbike. Dung searched for Y's brother many times but could not find him, so he was angry.
On March 22, Y went to Dung's house in Hamlet 1B, Vinh Loc B Commune, Binh Chanh District to play. When Y left in the evening, Dung's brothers did not let him go home but locked him in a room. During the days of confinement, Dung, Huyen and Khanh, after using drugs, often used rope to tie Y to the corner of the stairs and took turns to torture him by punching and kicking, beating him with sticks, burning hot plastic glue and dripping it on him, and using a gas cylinder with a blowtorch on him, causing many injuries to his body.

Not only that, Dung also took pictures of Y with a body full of injuries and sent them to Y's brother to pressure him to come forward. Y was tortured for more than 20 days, starved, leading to the fact that on the evening of April 10, Y gave birth prematurely, the fetus died in the mother's womb.
At this time, Dung asked his wife to take Y to the hospital for emergency treatment and asked his biological mother, Ms. Suong, to take the fetus and dump it in an empty lot in Binh Tan district.
Only after being taken to the emergency room did Y have the chance to interact with outsiders and contact his relatives. When they learned that their son was being abused, Y's relatives went to the Binh Chanh District Police to report the incident.
