1,500 bags of Dextran infusion to treat dengue shock have arrived in Vietnam.

According to information from the Drug Administration of Vietnam, Ministry of Health, with the support of the Thai FDA, up to now, there have been 1,500 bags of Dextran infusion to treat dengue shock in Vietnam due to the increasing cases of this disease.

Informing Suckhoedoisong.vn, a representative of the Drug Administration of Vietnam said that in order to have a source of supply of drugs containing dextran 40 or dextran 70 to treat hemorrhagic shock, the Drug Administration of Vietnam has proactively contacted the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA Thailand) to support and promote production facilities in Thailand to supply Dextran infusion to Vietnam.

With the support of the Thai FDA, up to now, Central Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company CPC1 has imported 1,500 Dextran infusion bags and is continuing to import more to meet treatment needs.

In addition, the Drug Administration of Vietnam received information that another unit has found another source of Dextran infusion solution (from France) that can supply the Vietnamese market.

Accumulated from the beginning of the year until now, the whole country has recorded 211,388 cases of dengue fever, 87 deaths. Compared to the same period last year, the number of cases and deaths have both increased. Source: SKDS

"In case medical facilities have a need, they should proactively contact the Company to get medicine supply" - said a representative of the Drug Administration Department.

According to the Ministry of Health's guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of dengue fever, the high molecular solutions recommended for use in the treatment of dengue shock include: Dextran 40, dextran 70, hydroxyethyl starch 6% 200,000 dalton.

In a document sent to drug importers requesting urgent contact and finding sources of supply for drugs containing dextran 40 or dextran 70 to treat dengue fever, the Drug Administration of Vietnam recently stated that there are currently no products registered for circulation in Vietnam for infusions containing dextran 40 or dextran 70.

Therefore, the supply of drugs must be through the form of import licensing that does not have a circulation registration certificate in Vietnam. However, the import of drugs faces many difficulties due to the limitation of foreign facilities supplying drugs to Vietnam.

According to the Drug Administration, there is currently only one manufacturing facility in Thailand supplying this infusion to our country.

To promptly provide anti-shock drugs to patientsdengue feverIn case of serious illness, the Drug Administration of Vietnam recommends that drug importers urgently contact and find sources of supply for drugs containing dextran 40 or dextran 70.

After finding a source of supply, these importing establishments must also contact medical examination and treatment facilities to determine the needs, sign contracts and submit application documents for import licenses to the Department.

The Drug Administration requires units to fully supply drugs according to the plans of the Departments of Health, hospitals, and institutes with beds under the Ministry when importing drugs and report to the Drug Administration on the import situation.

During the implementation process, if there are any difficulties or problems, facilities are requested to promptly report to the Department of Drug Administration for consideration and resolution according to regulations.
