Russia is keen to know how the weapon fell into the hands of the rebels involved in the attack,RIA Novostiquoted Russian MP Vikotor Volodarsky said.

"Syrian special forces are working at the site now. If they find missile parts, we can trace the serial number and the factory in a few days, find out how it got there," Volodarsky said. Russian planes are also providing air support for the Syrian army.

Russia carried out airstrikes, killing 30 rebels in the area where the Su-25 plane was shot down.

Su-25 aircraft shot down in Idlib on February 3. The pilot ejected but was killed fighting rebels on the ground. Two groups claimed responsibility for the incident: Tharir al-Sham, a group linked to al-Nusra (the former branch of al Qaeda in Syria), and Jaysh al-Nasr, linked to Free Syrian Army rebels.

Previously, the US affirmed that it did not provide MANPAD to the group that shot down the Russian plane. "The US has not provided weaponsto prevent any allied forces in Syria,"Tassquoted Pentagon spokesman Adrian JT Rankine-Galloway as saying.
