'War for the Planet of the Apes' surpasses 'Spider-Man' at the North American box office
It seemed like it would struggle to open on the weekend due to the heat of Spider-man: Homecoming, but War for the Planet of the Apes still proved its position as a sci-fi film franchise loved worldwide.

Present in more than 4,000 theaters in North America, the third part of the Planet of the Apes series, titled War for the Planet of the Apes, earned $56.5 million, becoming the highest-grossing film in North America last week, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Although the latest episode has a better revenue than what experts predicted, this is a step back for Planet of the Apes as the above figure is much lower than the second part - Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014). This part earned up to 72.6 million USD after 3 days of release.
Meanwhile, in the international market, War for the Planet of the Apes did not have a big opening. However, the revenue of 46 million USD is what the producer can be satisfied with. Among them, the film leads the UK box office with 9.5 million USD.
War For The Planet Of The Apes is the final film in the sci-fi trilogy The Planet of the Apes. Rated by Entertainment Weekly as “smarter, more humane, more emotional”, the film is the most notable work of the second half of 2017 with a persistent story about the survival war between giant primates and humans on the blue planet.
The film was funded by 20th Century Fox with a budget of 150 million USD, directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, 2008) and a strong voice cast. The work is receiving very high scores on review sites with 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, 8.2/10 on IMDb.

Losing the top spot to War For The Planet Of The Apes, Spider-man: Homecoming sadly fell to second place with 45.2 million USD.
However, the film is dominating the world box office, earning 72.3 million USD from 63 countries and territories. Currently, the film's global revenue has reached 261.1 million USD, although it has yet to exploit many potential markets such as China, Japan, and Spain.
In addition to War For The Planet Of The Apes, last week, North American theaters welcomed another newcomer, Wish Upon. However, this was a "low note" that was out of place in the bustling atmosphere of the box office in the past 3 days. The film disappointed when it only earned 5.6 million USD and ranked 7th, losing to Wonder Woman, which was released nearly 2 months ago.

Not only was it a box office failure, the film was also panned by critics with a score of 21% on Rotten Tomatoes and 4.5/10 on IMDb.
Directed by John R. Leonetti, Wish Upon is a horror story about a music box that 17-year-old Clare (Joey King) receives from her father. This gift has the ability to make all the wishes of its owner come true, but at the cost of the safety of those she loves.
In Vietnam, Wish Upon is scheduled to premiere from July 21 under the title Ghost Box./.
