US representative to NATO declares Ukraine ready to freeze frontline
The US permanent representative to NATO said that Kiev is ready to stop fighting along the line of contact in exchange for guarantees.
According to RIA Novosti, US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker said in an interview with Fox News that Ukraine is ready to freeze the front line, agreeing to end hostilities with Russia along the current line of contact.
"They are willing to freeze the front line if they receive security guarantees," said representative Whitaker.
According to him, a condition that would allow Kiev to end the conflict could be a system of guarantees with the presence of European troops as trainers or peacekeepers. The US permanent representative to NATO admitted that the agreement could include the protection of the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Russian-speaking community in Ukraine.
Mr Whitaker also acknowledged the existence of obstacles to Ukraine joining NATO. However, he said the time for this "has not yet come".
At the same time, Mr. Whitaker continued to emphasize the need to put pressure on Moscow to end the conflict.
Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov expressed his opinion on the Telegram channel: “There is chaos in the Zelensky administration. They have never been able to make strategic decisions, and now it is even more difficult.” He noted that the Kiev government needs to make a strategic decision in the coming days about what to do next.
Last week, speaking to reporters after a visit to China, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that if Mr. Zelensky was ready for a meeting, he should come to Moscow.
At the same time, the Russian leader called Mr. Zelensky the person holding the "main leadership" in Ukraine, because Mr. Zelensky's power expired long ago.
