Congress to establish the Vovinam Association of Nghe An province
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of October 12, 2014, the first founding congress of the Nghe An Provincial VOVINAM Association, for the term 2014-2019, was held at Phan Boi Chau High School. The congress elected 17 members to the executive committee, with Mr. Nguyen Luu Thuy as Chairman, and approved the draft charter of the Association.
Attending the Congress were Master Tran Van My - Vice President of the Vietnam VOVINAM Federation, Mr. Nguyen Hoang - Deputy Director of the Nghe An Department of Education; Mr. Nguyen Luu Thuy - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Van Xuan University; delegates, guests, and coaches, masters, and students of VOVINAM in the province.
VOVINAM - Vietnamese martial arts was created by the late martial arts master Nguyen Loc in Hanoi in 1938, based on traditional Vietnamese martial arts and wrestling, while also incorporating the best elements from other martial arts schools around the world.
In Nghe An province, after 6 years of development, there are now more than 14 Vovinam clubs, 20 coaches, and nearly 800 regularly practicing martial arts. At the same time, universities such as Van Xuan University and Vinh University have officially included Vovinam in their curriculum.
On behalf of the Congress, Mr. Le Van Chuan – VOVINAM coach and director of the Asia Commercial Bank branch in Nghe An – announced Decision No. 3274/QD-UBND dated July 17, 2014, of the People's Committee of Nghe An province, allowing the establishment of the Nghe An VOVINAM Association.

The Congress approved the decision to establish the Association, drafted the charter, and elected the Executive Committee of the Nghe An Provincial VOVINAM Association, consisting of 17 members. Mr. Nguyen Luu Thuy was elected Chairman of the Nghe An Provincial VOVINAM Association for the first term (2014 – 2019). The Association also agreed to complete the procedures to transform the Nghe An VOVINAM Association into the Nghe An VOVINAM Federation.
