Taiwan imposes heavy fines on gamers playing Pokémon GO while driving

There will be a heavy fine for driving while playing Pokémon GO in Taiwan.

“The whole country is crazy about playing Pokémon GO on their phones,” said Yen San-lung, head of the traffic law enforcement division of the Taipei Police Department. “When you drive, the game distracts you and can easily lead to accidents. So the police will make efforts to control the use of mobile phones while driving.”

Taiwanese police have issued a ban on playing games while driving, along with a fine of NT$3,000, equivalent to about VND2.13 million, for those who drive while playing games. Surprisingly, this fine is three times higher than the penalty for racing in Taiwan.

In addition, Taiwanese authorities also urged gamers not to play in some special locations, such as the Taiwan Presidential Palace area and the National Palace Museum.

At the Taipei Zoo, a rather humorous scene often occurs when visitors, instead of looking at real-life animals, only stare at virtual animals (Pokemon) on their phone screens. Chen Ting-ju, a zoo visitor, complained, “I was really annoyed when my boyfriend only played games from the moment he set foot in the zoo. He just played, played, and played.”
