Cuba's first ambassador to Vietnam passes away at the age of 86
According to a VNA correspondent in Havana, on July 16, diplomat, scholar, and former Cuban military officer Julio A. Garcia Oliveras, who served as the first Ambassador of the Cuban revolutionary government to Vietnam, passed away at the age of 86.
Born in 1931 in Havana, Mr. Julio Oliveras is an architect, doctor of economics, and graduated from the Advanced Military Course of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces.
He joined the Cuban Revolution early, was promoted to Commander in 1959, and was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1969 to 1986.
During his time as Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam from 1966-1969, he also served as Head of the Cuban Military Delegation in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and later held leadership positions in various fields.
He has published many books, mainly on historical topics, including "Ho Chi Minh, patriot, 60 years of revolutionary struggle."
