"We do not want to negotiate directly with Syria. They do not deserve to negotiate with the United States. Syria only tortures its own people and destroys its homeland," Haley said, affirming that Washington never intended to overthrow Bashar Assad.
The US-led coalition carried out the airstrikes on April 14 in response to the Syrian government's alleged chemical attack on civilians in Douma, Syria last weekend, which killed about 70 people, but Damascus has repeatedly denied the accusation.
Russia said Syria shot down at least 71 of the 103 missiles fired by the US and its allies. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter that the attack was perfect and the mission "accomplished"./.
