Following the suicide bombings at three churches in Surabaya that killed 13 people, the Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta on May 14 advised Vietnamese citizens in Indonesia to remain calm and vigilant, reduce activities in public areas in the coming days, and immediately notify the nearest police if they see suspicious activities.

The announcement on Facebook of the Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta also cited a list of high-risk terrorist locations issued by Indonesian intelligence and counter-terrorism units.

Indonesian police said the six suicide bombers who attacked three churches on May 13 were members of a family returning from Syria with links to an IS-linked terrorist group.

Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia.

On May 14, a group of suicide bombers rammed a motorbike into the police headquarters in Surabaya city, injuring many people.

The Surabaya attack was Indonesia's deadliest since 2009. The deadliest attack in the archipelago was the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on May 13 strongly condemned the attack, calling on the people of the country to unite against terrorism. "The government will not ignore this cowardly act," he told a press conference in Surabaya.
