Ambassador Thach Du: Vietnam attaches importance to developing relations with Cambodia

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 - June 24, 2017), on the evening of June 24, Vietnamese Ambassador Thach Du gave a speech on Cambodian National Television (TVK).

According to a VNA correspondent in Cambodia, in his speech, Ambassador Thach Du reviewed the formation and development of the relationship of solidarity, friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the two neighboring peoples of Vietnam and Cambodia over the past five decades.

The Ambassador especially emphasized that the people of the two countries have stood shoulder to shoulder, shared the joys and sorrows, and overcome the difficult and sacrificial journeys in the struggle to protect independence, freedom, and national reunification and regain the people's right to live.

On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed his deep gratitude for the valuable support and assistance that the late King Norodom Sihanouk, the leaders and people of Cambodia gave to the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national independence and reunification.

Ambassador Thach Du affirmed that in recent times, with the motto of "good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability", the cooperative and friendly relations between the two countries have continuously developed in many fields and brought practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

The two sides regularly exchange high-level delegations. Through these visits, senior leaders of the two countries affirmed their determination to continue to foster the friendly, solidarity and good cooperation between the two countries.

In his speech, the Vietnamese Ambassador also highlighted the achievements in economic, trade, investment, security-defense, education, training, health, culture cooperation between the two countries, as well as coordination activities at international and regional forums. The two sides also actively coordinated in the implementation of land border demarcation and marker planting to build the two countries' border into a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development.

On this occasion, Ambassador Thach Du affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of always attaching importance to and giving high priority to consolidating and developing good neighborly relations, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, actively contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The Ambassador emphasized that Vietnam always pays close attention and is extremely happy about the great and proud achievements that the Cambodian people have achieved, expressing his wish that the solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia will continue to develop well./.
