Winning big against Swansea, Mourinho's MU repeats the miracle after 110 years |
Very few managers change their starting line-up when their team is on the verge of a convincing victory, and Jose Mourinho is no exception. He brought the same starting line-up that beat West Ham 4-0 in the Premier League opener to start against Swansea. They are a team that are in high spirits and, as Mourinho described before the match, “they are playing happy, joyful football.”
However, Swansea are no pushovers. Before meeting MU, they had a 6-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League (including last season). Paul Clement's team made MU less happy for most of the first half. In the 3rd minute, Swansea almost opened the scoring when Jordan Ayew crossed the ball across the MU goal, the ball hit the post and went out.

Defensively, Swansea organized a tight, solid defense, causing MU to have a lot of difficulty in attacking. However, when facing difficulties in open play situations, set pieces were MU's savior. In the 9th minute, Phil Jones headed the ball into Swansea's crossbar after a free kick from the left wing by Juan Mata.
In the 45th minute, MU had another shot that hit the crossbar, but this time, they were luckier. Starting from a corner kick on the left wing, Pogba jumped high to head the ball, the ball hit the crossbar and bounced out, and Eric Bailly rushed in to score the opening goal for MU. This was the Ivorian defender's first goal for the Old Trafford team.
GOAL
MU: Bailly (45'), Lukaku (80'), Pogba (81'), Martial (84')
