Vietnam's first observatory to operate in August
Nha Trang Observatory (Khanh Hoa) will be inaugurated in August, instead of March as originally planned.
"The dome and telescope were completed in March, but due to the need to complete fire prevention and fighting issues, Italian experts have only now calibrated the equipment for the last time and will hand it over to the Center next week," said Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Director of the Vietnam Satellite Center (VNSC), about the reason for the delay in inauguration.

Vietnam's first astronomical observatory was located at Hon Chong (Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa), including a telescope with a diameter of0.5 m and a 9 m dome, capacity 60 people.
With telescopes, viewers can observe constellations more clearly and interesting phenomena such as meteors, lunar and solar eclipses. The dome is where visitors enjoy films about the universe, planets, and the history of the formation of the earth.

VNSC is also building an observatory at the Space Museum in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park (Hanoi), including a 0.5 m diameter telescope and a 12 m diameter dome. It is expected to be completed in September and handed over in October this year.
On June 19, the President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology decided to change the name of the National Satellite Center to the Vietnam Space Center. The decision takes effect from July 17, 2017. |
