Ensuring irrigation water for spring crop production

(Baonghean.vn) - To ensure water for spring crop production in 2017, Nghe An Irrigation Department mobilized staff to be on duty, reasonably regulate water resources, review and balance water resources, and be ready to respond when incidents occur in canal systems.

Comrade Hoang Nghia Hieu - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province inspected the water source at the headwaters of the Do Luong Ba Ra canal (Trang Son commune, Do Luong) irrigating 5 districts of Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, and Hoang Mai town.

Since the 4th day of Lunar New Year, workers of Yen Thanh Irrigation Enterprise (under Bac Irrigation Company Limited) have been operating to get water throughout the canal system for people's production.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Kien - Director of the Enterprise said: We are responsible for irrigating more than 10,000 hectares of rice. Since the first day of Tet, the enterprise has divided the workforce to operate from the pumping area, to the self-flowing area, and the dam. Handling weak points of blockage caused by garbage and water hyacinth on the canals. Up to now, the team of workers has brought water to the fields so that farmers can feel secure in their production.

The Northern Irrigation Company provides irrigation water for the spring crop with an area of ​​more than 30,000 hectares for 5 key rice districts including Yen Thanh, Do Luong, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, and Hoang Mai town.

The unit arranges workers to take turns on duty during Tet holiday, ensuring water for spring irrigation. At the same time, it strengthens water and construction management before, during and after Tet holiday, regularly inspects key projects, promptly operates water sources, and handles incidents.

On the second day of Lunar New Year, workers of the pumping cluster of Ly, Minh, Dai, and My communes (Yen Thanh) checked and maintained the machines before operating the electric pumping station.

Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu - Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: In the spring crop of 2017, the whole province planted more than 85,000 hectares of rice. Although the rainfall in 2016 was better, it was still at a normal level. On the afternoon of the first day of Tet, the Irrigation LLCs in the province arranged appropriate forces to be on duty and operate to ensure water for the spring crop.

Previously, on January 13, the Department issued Official Letter No. 76/SNN-CCTL to units "on the operation of the project, ensuring irrigation for production during the Dinh Dau Tet holiday 2017". Specifically, fully deploying forces to promptly operate the project, checking and balancing water sources, and being ready to respond when incidents occur...".

On the 4th day of Lunar New Year, workers of Ve Vung Dam Cluster in Dong Thanh Commune (Yen Thanh) cleared the flow to serve spring crop production.

Extreme weather conditions, specifically early southwest winds and prolonged heat, may still result in water shortages at the end of the season. Faced with this reality, the agricultural sector requires localities and irrigation units to develop specific and detailed drought prevention plans for each region from the beginning of the season to proactively cope (especially the end of the canal, semi-mountainous and mountainous areas).

Localities and units should review and rebalance the water situation to develop a suitable spring irrigation plan. Do not plant rice in areas that cannot be irrigated throughout the season, and have a plan to change the crop structure in areas that cannot be irrigated.
