When questioned, suspect Lam Tan Dang confessed to stabbing crew member Kiet to death and pushing his body into the sea.

On November 9th, the Border Guard of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province directed the Ben Da Border Guard Station (Vung Tau City) to contact and guide fishing vessel BD 93711 TS to bring suspect Lam Tan Dang to Con Dao district to hand him over to the Con Dao Border Guard Station for further investigation into the murder.

Authorities are working with the owner of the fishing vessel.

Initial information indicates that at 7:30 AM on November 9th, the Ben Da Border Guard Station received a report from Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung (born in 1970, residing in Hiep Tung commune, Nam Can district, Ca Mau province) regarding the death of his son, Nguyen Tuan Kiet (born in 1996, residing in Thanh Tung commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province), who was aboard the fishing vessel BD 93711 TS, after being stabbed to death by a fellow crew member at sea.

Through working with Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (born in 1963, residing at 588/33 Tran Phu Street, Ward 5, Vung Tau City), the representative of the owner of fishing vessel BD 93711 TS stated that at approximately 2 PM on November 8th, the crew members on fishing vessel BD 93711 TS woke up and did not see crew member Nguyen Tuan Kiet, so they checked with the other crew members on the boat regarding Kiet's absence.

When questioned, crew member Lam Tan Dang (born in 1993, residing in Vinh Quoi commune, Nga Nam town, Soc Trang province) admitted to stabbing Kiet to death and pushing his body into the sea. Afterward, the crew members on the boat tried to subdue and arrest Lam Tan Dang, but he ran to the back of the fishing boat, grabbed two sharp Thai knives, and jumped into the sea, threatening to stab anyone who came down.

A short while later, the crew members on fishing vessel BD 93711 TS managed to subdue Dang and bring him aboard.

The Ben Da Border Guard Station is currently contacting fishing vessel BD 93711 TS to bring the suspect to Con Dao for further investigation.
