Stabbed a coworker and then calmly went to play video games
Being repeatedly cursed and insulted by their colleagues, Chung and Hai slapped and stabbed the victim, knocking him down on the spot, then asked someone to take them to an arcade to play.
On August 25, Hanoi People's Court brought defendants Dinh Van Chung (born 1992) and Nguyen Van Hai (born 1993), both residing in Phu Loc, Nho Quan, Ninh Binh, to trial for the crime of Murder under Point n, Clause 1, Article 93 of the Penal Code.
The case file shows that Chung and Hai were parking attendants for the snail restaurant “Dung Beo 2” and Nguyen Manh Hoa (born in 1963, residing in Hang Bot ward, Dong Da district, Hanoi) was a parking attendant at the snail restaurant “Dung Beo 1” in the same area of Dong Tam ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi.
At around 9:30 p.m. on October 26, 2015, the restaurant “Dung Beo 1” was crowded with customers, so Mr. Hoa called Chung and Hai to help with parking for customers. However, at that time, Hai was getting a car for a customer at the restaurant “Dung Beo 2” so he could not come to help Mr. Hoa, and Chung was walking slowly and had not arrived yet, so he was scolded by Mr. Hoa.

Because Mr. Hoa insulted him many times, after returning the motorbike to the customer, Chung went to the restaurant "Dung Beo 1", took a knife hidden behind his back and went to Mr. Hoa. When he reached the base of the rosewood tree where Mr. Hoa was sitting, Chung immediately swung the knife and stabbed him in the back, but Mr. Hoa was alert and dodged it, saying: "You can't eat me, I know what you mean."
Partly because he was angry at what he said, and partly because he was frustrated by being cursed at so many times, Chung grabbed a knife and chased after Mr. Hoa around the restaurant area. When he caught up, Chung continued to swing the knife and stab, but Mr. Hoa still avoided it, grabbed Chung's leg, threw him backwards, and kicked Chung in the head.
At this time, Hai saw Chung being kicked, so he ran over, grabbed Mr. Hoa's collar from behind, pulled him back, and slapped him 2-3 times in the face. Seeing that, Chung immediately got up, grabbed a knife, and ran over to stab Mr. Hoa many times, causing Mr. Hoa to collapse on the spot before stopping.
After that, Chung and Hai ran to the snail restaurant "Dung Beo 2" and asked Nguyen Truong Giang (born in 1996, residing in Truong Dinh, Hai Ba Trung district), a regular customer of the restaurant, to take them to the arcade to hang out.
As for Mr. Hoa, after being stabbed, he was taken to the emergency room by everyone but died on the way to the hospital. Through the examination, Mr. Hoa was stabbed a total of 6 times in the neck, back, arm and chest.
After about 4 hours of playing video games, Chung and Hai were arrested by the police.
During the investigation, the police summoned Giang to work, but Giang was absent from his residence and his whereabouts were unknown, so the investigation agency decided to separate the investigation documents for later processing.
At court, the panel of judges clarified that defendant Chung lost his mother and defendant Hai lost his father, so he had to drop out of school early to earn money to support his family, leading to a lack of understanding of the law.
In addition, both defendants had no criminal record, had good personal background, and honestly confessed their crimes to the Investigation Police Agency and at trial, so the panel of judges decided to sentence defendant Dinh Van Chung to 20 years in prison and defendant Nguyen Van Hai to 12 years in prison, according to the charges brought against them.
