Damrey is the biggest storm ever to make landfall in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province. |
“Our colleagues at the South Central Hydrometeorological Station assessed this as the strongest storm to hit Nha Trang so far, surpassing the historic storms of 1988, 1993, and 2009. At the meteorological station on Tran Phu Street near the sea, the wind gusts reached level 13,” Mr. Hai informed.
However, he said that at places without measuring points such as Van Phong Bay and Ca Pass, wind levels could be even stronger.
In Phu Yen, statistics show that the storm is equivalent to the 1993 Lola storm.
Mr. Hai noted that tonight there will be a cold front, so the rain situation in the Central and South Central regions in the next few days will be extremely serious, at least until November 7.
“Now the flood water is mostly at alert level 3, we are closely monitoring, tonight and tomorrow morning it could reach historic levels. We cannot rule out the possibility that Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Binh Dinh will repeat the historic flood of 1999,” Mr. Hai emphasized.
