Villagers weave nearly 200 baskets to make embankments to protect spring rice.
(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, spring rice fields in the mountainous district of Con Cuong (Nghe An) are in the flowering period. Due to heavy rain on the evening of April 27, the stream water level rose, affecting the rice fields in some villages.

To "save" the rice, in Hua Na village field, Luc Da commune, the entire village has mobilized to make baskets to contain sand and gravel to embank the fields along Moi stream to prevent landslides. In just one morning (April 28), the villagers made 194 baskets to contain gravel.
Hua Na village has 194 households with 54 hectares of spring rice fields. It is a remote village so there is no funding to build embankments. Therefore, every year when there is a flood, people have to join hands to weave baskets containing soil, rocks, sand and gravel to make temporary embankments to prevent landslides and encroachment on the fields.
