Israelis are starting to feel like the scenario of hundreds of missiles raining down on them after Israel attacks Iran's nuclear facilities is no longer science fiction!

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did nothing to reassure them when he recently described Israel as a “cancerous tumor” that needed to be removed.

The tension was palpable at gas mask distribution centers, with lines of people pushing and shoving, a phenomenon not seen in years. Calls to government information centers asking about the location of public shelters were on the rise.

Tel Aviv City Hall, a key target along with the military headquarters and the Ministry of Defense, announced that 60 underground parking lots would be equipped to accommodate hundreds of thousands of people if necessary. Another 220 public shelters would be equipped with ventilation, air conditioning and water systems to withstand missiles.

A regional SMS missile alert system on mobile phones has been tested to send only people in the area under attack to public shelters, avoiding a nationwide shutdown.

Israeli Defense Minister Matan Vilnai on August 15 revealed to the Maariv newspaper about a 30-day war on many fronts with Iran. He said that “the wartime rear is ready like never before.”

“If the Japanese people have to learn to live with earthquakes, Israeli citizens must be prepared for retaliation with hundreds of Iranian missiles aimed at cities and villages,” Mr. Vilnai emphasized.
