President Xi Jinping has made a decision to "reform the country" with increased control over business, education, culture and religion.
Within the scope of this “reform,” the PRC government wants to prevent “unhealthy” attention from being paid to showbiz stars. In addition, producers need to strictly control the selection of actors and characters for shows, their “performances, costumes, and makeup.” In the Communist Party’s view, showing “cowardly” faces will negatively affect society and set a bad example for young people.
In addition, the Chinese government considers it unacceptable for television to flaunt people's wealth and discuss their private lives. According to authorities, this does not reflect the values of the People's Republic of China.
TV channels were told to “vigorously promote China’s excellent traditional culture and its advanced and revolutionary socialist culture.” In the list of 24 best programs, the government included several programs about the country’s leader, President Xi Jinping.
