Militia join hands to build new countryside in Nghe An border area

Along with the local armed forces, the militia and self-defense force of Que Phong district (Nghe An), in addition to training and combat readiness tasks, also actively carries out mass mobilization work, helping people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and build new rural areas.

Returning to Nam Giai commune (Que Phong), we were really surprised by the changes in the border villages. Most of the main roads have been concreted, many spacious and solid houses have sprung up, adding to the changing and improving life of the Thai ethnic people in Nam Giai. This change has had a significant contribution from the armed forces in the area, including the militia and self-defense forces.

Pieng Lang village used to be the most difficult in the commune, but now life has really improved as the roads around the village have been concreted, and all households have clean and tidy houses and gardens. In particular, livestock barns have been moved out of the village, establishing livestock areas to preserve the landscape.

Mr. Le Van Son - Village ChiefPieng Langsaid: “In the past, people's lives were difficult, the village was still difficult and messy. In recent years, the village has received support from the militia to build roads, install lighting, disseminate farming techniques, establish livestock areas, and relocate barns. Thanks to that, people's lives have improved significantly, and the living environment is always clean.”

According to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Lo Minh Tuong Commune, every time they walk on the concrete roads in Puc, Pieng Lang, Pong and Mo villages, local people always remember the efforts of the militia soldiers. Because in recent years, this force has helped the villages build rural roads with a total of more than 25 km of concrete roads within the village.

In addition, the militia also helped build the foundations of prefabricated houses supported by the Ministry of Public Security for 21 poor households in the area; helped 2 poor households build solid stilt houses supported by the Provincial Military Command; installed a total of more than 100 solar-powered lighting bulbs and dredged more than 7 km of intra-field canals, creating favorable conditions for farmers to produce crops.

Mr. Lu Van Huong - Commander of the Military Command of Nam Giai commune said: Along with promoting training and combat readiness to firmly protect territorial sovereignty and border security, the commune's armed forces have implemented the emulation movement "Armed forces join hands to build new countryside".

Over the past years, officers and soldiers of the commune's armed forces have voluntarily contributed over 2,300 working days, working with local people to build new rural areas, gradually contributing to creating a new face in the border area.

Through the implementation process, many good models and practices have been replicated and spread in the community such as the model of moving barns out of the village, establishing livestock farming areas in Pieng Lang and Puc villages to ensure both economic development and environmental sanitation. Organizing the repair and upgrading of the broadcasting system at the village community cultural house so that the policies of the superiors reach the people as quickly as possible.

The model of consolidating, building and renovating cultural houses has been enthusiastically responded to by officers and soldiers of the militia and reserve forces. Currently, 5/5 cultural houses in villages and hamlets have been upgraded and renovated, creating conditions for people to participate in community activities, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people.

Up to now, the whole commune has had about 80% of the total roads concreted, some roads in villages have electricity such as Pieng Lang, Pong village and Mo village. The canal system is regularly maintained and repaired, serving agricultural production, the environment has clearly changed.

To help people change their thinking in economic development, the Nam Giai Commune Military Command has promoted and mobilized the militia to boldly build economic models for people to learn and follow. Through this, some models have emerged with an income of 70 - 100 million VND/year.

Typical examples include the pig farming model of village team leader Luong Van Huy (Mo village); the model of planting acacia and digging fish ponds of soldier Quang Van Cuong (Cha Lau village); and the chicken farming model of soldier Ha Van Nhan (Pieng Lang village). Through their efforts in economic development, the commune militia has contributed to poverty reduction in the area.

In particular, in Nam Giai, concentrated specialized areas have been formed linked to value chain linkages, such as concentrated livestock farming areas in Pieng Lang, acacia growing areas in Pong village, and cinnamon growing areas in Puc village with a total area of ​​thousands of hectares.

These results have contributed to raising the average income in the commune to 17 million VND/person/year and reducing the multidimensional poverty rate to 49%. Up to now, Nam Giai has been recognized by the District People's Committee as meeting 12/19 criteria for building anew rural.

“Determining that building a new countryside only has a starting point, not an ending point, the Military Command of Nam Giai commune continues to coordinate with the Fatherland Front Committee and socio-political organizations, and armed forces units stationed in the area to effectively carry out the movement of joining hands to build a new countryside associated with the goal of sustainable poverty reduction, in accordance with the characteristics and tasks of the locality,” said Mr. Lu Van Huong.

"Help people have enough to eat and be self-sufficient in their villages"

Not only in Nam Giai, the movement "Armed forces join hands to build new rural areas" has had a profound influence in Que Phong district. The Military Commands of all communes have developed work plans with specific tasks. During the implementation process, the armed forces and militia always attach importance to mobilizing people to develop the economy, increase income to sustainably reduce poverty.

According to Mr. Luong Van Tuan - Commander of Tri Le Commune Military Command, the commune's militia and self-defense force is always ready to fight, protect national sovereignty and security as well as help people in the villages overcome the consequences of natural disasters and floods.

Officers and soldiers also help poor households build house foundations; harvest rice and crops to help families with sick members; participate in building rural roads, dredging canals in the fields, helping people travel and produce conveniently. Thanks to the help of the forcemilitia, the village's appearance has changed, life has improved significantly.

The District Military Command and units developed a plan for a field trip to do mass mobilization work with 1,000 working days, consolidating and repairing 12km of rural roads and clearing, clearing and dredging 15km of intra-field canals; building a new volleyball court in Muong Hin village, Tien Phong commune; supporting 1 set of decorations, tables and chairs for the Thanh Phong 2 Community Cultural House, Muong Noc commune...

The district has directed the District Military Command to coordinate with armed forces units stationed in the area to review, identify and register to implement the model of skillful mass mobilization "Helping people to be well-off and self-reliant in the village" with specific and practical actions. The armed forces of the communes have propagated to the people to have the awareness to rise up, eliminate backward customs and practices in labor and production, and transform the structure of crops and livestock according to the model of family farms and ranches, suitable to the conditions and circumstances of each locality.
