Dozens of Chinese small UAVs quickly formed up after taking off to conduct battlefield reconnaissance operations.

Engineers at China's National University of Defense Technology recently conducted a test of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operating in a "swarm" formation at an undisclosed location.SputnikJanuary 21 news.

In the released video, about 10 small-sized Beijing UAVs take off from a concrete runway and quickly assemble to conduct coordinated reconnaissance operations and collect battlefield intelligence.

In June 2017, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) also launched a combat reconnaissance system consisting of 119 small UAVs connected together and capable of taking off and flying in formation.

CETC said the new technology could cut production and operating costs, as well as increase attack capabilities compared to a large UAV of the same price. When applying this technology, UAVs detect targets together, then send some of them carrying weapons to attack.

The Russian Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies (CAST) believes that the technology announced by CETC has many similarities with the US Perdix micro-UAV swarm, which is used for many purposes such as deception, harassing air defense radar systems, reconnaissance, and even tactical attacks on enemy ground targets.
