One of the most fearsome weapons on land is present on the Project 771 landing craft of the Vietnam People's Navy.

The Project 771 landing craft is one of the largest military and troop transport vessels in the Vietnam People's Navy today. Although Vietnam received these ships as aid from the Soviet Union, they were built at the Stocznia Polnocna shipyard in Gdynia (Poland). (Image source: People's Army Newspaper)

The Polnocny-B Project 771 landing ship has a full-load displacement of 834 tons, is 73m long, 9.6m wide, and has a draft of 2.3m. The ship is equipped with two 4,400 horsepower diesel engines, giving it a maximum speed of 33km/h and a range of 2,000km. (Image source: Vietnam National Defense Channel)

| According to published Russian technical documents, the 771-class landing transport ship is capable of carrying up to 5 T-54/55 or PT-76 tanks or BTR-60 armored vehicles; or 3 towed 122mm or 152mm guns; or 3 ATS-1 towed artillery pieces; or 9 Zil-151 trucks or 19 GAZ-69 jeeps. | Overall, the amphibious transport capabilities of Project 771 are nothing special or particularly large; they are considered light-to-medium landing craft. However, the firepower of the 771 is truly formidable. It must be said that the enemy will certainly be terrified when the 771's array of weapons unleashes firepower to support the marine infantry and tanks in recapturing islands and coastlines. | Accordingly, each Project 771 warship is equipped with two WM-18 Ogon 18-barrel 140mm multiple rocket launchers on its deck. This type of rocket launcher is related to the famous Grad multiple rocket launcher used on land, a weapon that always strikes fear into the hearts of the enemy when it roars. | The WM-18 has a range of up to 9,800m, or a minimum of 1,000m, allowing for effective close-range or deep inland support for landing forces. (Image source: Vietnam National Defense Channel) |

Meanwhile, the largest landing ship in the Vietnam People's Navy – the 501, built using World War II-era technology – was a war trophy after 1945, so it's not surprising that its firepower is inferior to the 771 despite its significantly larger size. The 501 is approximately 100 meters long and has a full-load displacement of up to 4,000 tons. (Image source: Naval Television)

However, the 501's firepower consists only of twin-barreled 40mm Bofors gun mounts with a range of approximately 7.1km. Image source: Naval Television
