The Liberal Party of Canada has elected a new leader to replace Justin Trudeau.
Mark Carney was elected leader of the Liberal Party of Canada in a months-long and high-stakes race, replacing Justin Trudeau.

According to CNN, Mark Carney is expected to lead the Liberal Party in the next federal election – which must be held before October, but could happen much earlier – where he may face tough competition from the Conservative Party, currently leading in the polls.
While Mr. Carney will immediately assume the leadership of the Liberal Party, incumbent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will continue to lead Canada for an undisclosed transition period until his successor is settled.
One of the biggest issues that the new Carney party leader will have to address immediately is the deteriorating relationship between Canada and the United States.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly blamed Canada for illegal immigration into the U.S., threatening to make Canada the 51st state and impose high tariffs on Canadian imports, which the White House claims are necessary to stop the flow of fentanyl across the U.S. border.
The ripple effect of the strained relationship has spread throughout Canadian society, with fans at NHL and NBA games in Canada even booing the American national anthem.
Mr. Carney did not shy away from questions about how he would handle the issue with the Donald Trump administration.
Since the US tariffs were announced last month, Mr. Carney has spoken out in support of imposing retaliatory tariffs equivalent to the dollar, which would have a strong impact on the US but minimal impact on Canada.
Following Trump's tariff announcement and allegations of fentanyl smuggling from Canada to the U.S., Carney said he felt "offended" by the long-standing friendship between Canada and the U.S.
Mr. Carney began his career in finance and in 2019, he was appointed the United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance. Building on his background, Carney has made clean energy, climate policy, and economic prosperity for Canada some of the central aspects of his campaign.
When launching his election campaign, Carney emphasized his role in helping the government resolve its debt issues during the 2008 financial crisis.
Mr. Carney focused on bringing economic prosperity to Canada with the help of natural resources such as vital minerals and making Canada a leader in clean energy, emphasizing that a low carbon footprint would make Canada more competitive.
He proposed shifting the financial burden of a carbon tax from consumers to large corporations and stated that under his leadership, the taxes Canadian consumers and small businesses pay on fuel would be replaced by incentives to reduce carbon emissions.
