Sevilla won the title for the third time in the last eight years, following their victories in 2006 and 2007 (Source: AP).

After both the 90 minutes of regulation time and the 30 minutes of extra time ended goalless, the two teams had to settle the match on penalties, and two missed penalties from Oscar Cardozo and Rodrigo continued to cause Benfica heartbreak for the second consecutive time.

This is the third time in the last eight years that Sevilla has won this tournament, formerly known as the UEFA Cup, after 2006 and 2007. In the penalty shootout, all four of their players successfully converted their penalties.

Meanwhile, Benfica have lost seven European Cup finals since winning the European Cup twice in 1961 and 1962, continuing a 52-year jinx. Last year, they also lost 1-2 to Chelsea in the final in Amsterdam.
