The second seed beat Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4 to claim her 23rd Grand Slam title.

This achievement helped Serena Williams surpass the legendary Steffi Graf, becoming the tennis player with the most Grand Slam titles in the Open era. If counting the time before, only Australian legend Margaret Court has more Grand Slam singles titles than Serena (24). The 35-year-old tennis player also regained the world number one ranking from Angelique Kerber thanks to this victory.

This is the ninth time the Williams sisters have met in a Grand Slam final and Serena has won her seventh match against her sister. Before this match, Serena was considered to be superior to her sister and had a good chance of winning the championship. The reigning Wimbledon champion also declared that she would play her best in a friendly atmosphere with her sister.

However, in the third game of the first set, Serena got angry and smashed her racket on the court because of an unsatisfactory shot. She was warned by the referee after this action. Serena won the break in the first and third games of the first set, but in the next two games, she let her sister break her serve. Notably, in the fourth game, Serena made three double faults.

Venus did not play well but Serena made too many unforced errors. In the seventh game, Serena got her third break with two accurate backhands in a row. The second seed ended the first set after 41 minutes with an easy win in the 10th game. She scored two aces in a row and won the game.

The six-time Australian Open champion then held the advantage until the 10th game, when she held serve. Serena won a 24-touch rally, the longest of the match, and eventually won after two unforced errors from Venus. In contrast to the first set, Venus regained her strength on serve in the second set. She easily won the first three service games. However, in the seventh game, Serena won a 16-turn rally, the most exciting match of the match, to seize the opportunity to break. Venus saved the break but Serena scored two consecutive points to break her sister's serve.

Most of the crowd at Rod Laver Arena cheered for Venus Williams from the start of the match. The 36-year-old has not won a major title since Wimbledon in 2008. Recently, Venus has not been able to advance in major tournaments due to her declining fitness. The achievement of reaching the Australian Open final helped Venus rise from 13th to 11th in the world.

Today (January 29), the men's singles final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will take place at 3:30 p.m. (Hanoi time).
