Man sentenced to 13 years in prison for killing neighbor.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 10th, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a public trial for the case of Dang Thanh Binh (born in 1973, residing in Nghia An commune, Nghia Dan district) charged with murder.

During questioning in court, Binh's criminal act was clarified: at approximately 9 PM on March 6, 2014, after consuming alcohol, Binh called Bui Van Phuong (born in 1970), a resident of the same neighborhood, to invite him to play billiards – Phuong agreed. Upon arriving at the billiard hall, Binh saw Phuong and Truong Van Hien, both from Nghia An commune, playing. Binh then inquired about the rules and how to play, and joined in.

After a few rounds, Hien lost and went to a table to drink water, while Binh and Phuong continued playing. A conflict arose, and they started arguing. Phuong said, "It's only a few dollars, why are you arguing?" At the same time, Hien took money from his pocket, threw it onto the billiard table, and called Binh "dirty." Feeling insulted, Binh punched Hien in the mouth and then ran to Phuong's chair and punched and kicked him, causing Phuong to fall to the ground.

After getting up, Phuong said to Binh, "Go ahead and punch me again." Hearing this challenge, Binh immediately ran over and punched and kicked Phuong repeatedly, causing Phuong to faint and die on the way to the hospital. After committing the crime, Binh went to the Nghia Dan District Police Station to surrender and confess to his crime.

At the trial, Binh confessed honestly, expressed remorse for his crime, and the victim's family submitted a petition for leniency. Since the incident, Binh's family has compensated the victim's family nearly 96 million VND. Recognizing Binh's violent and thuggish behavior, the court deemed it necessary to isolate him from society for a long period to allow him to reform and realize his mistakes. After consideration, the court sentenced Binh to 13 years in prison for murder.
