(Baonghean.vn) - The Department of Science and Technology has recommended that the Provincial People's Committee direct the Department of Health to temporarily suspend the operations of 21 bottled water production and business establishments that have violated quality standards in production.

According to the report of the inter-agency inspection team, 21 bottled water and mineral water production and business establishments had 21 water samples that did not meet the declared standards and contained dangerous bacteria, thus violating quality standards in production.

Based on Government Decree 80/2013/ND-CP on administrative penalties for violations in the field of standards, measurement, and product and goods quality, the Inspectorate of the Department of Science and Technology has imposed administrative penalties on these 21 establishments with a total fine of 35.5 million VND, and ordered the recall of all infringing goods.

Hang Hieu business establishment is one of 21 establishments that violated quality standards in bottled water production.

Bottled water bearing the Nawa brand name has samples that do not meet the published quality standards.

However, due to the serious nature of the violations committed by these bottled water and mineral water production facilities, which affect consumer health, in addition to imposing administrative penalties as prescribed, in Conclusion No. 955/KL-KHCN-TTra dated November 10, 2015, the Department of Science and Technology recommended that the Provincial People's Committee direct the Department of Health to consider suspending operations for a specified period until there is evidence that these facilities have taken measures to rectify the violations.

Regarding facilities using fake test result certificates, the Department of Science and Technology also recommended that the Provincial People's Committee direct the Department of Health to suspend operations and revoke licenses; and compel these facilities to conduct quality testing and re-declare conformity in accordance with regulations.

Previously, Nghe An Newspaper reported that, during the inspection process, the inter-agency inspection team of the province discovered that 21 out of 37 samples did not meet the published quality standards. Specifically, the indicators that failed to meet the standards were mainly microorganisms such as E. coli, Coliforms, and Sulfite. Among them, many water samples contained Pseudomonas bacteria.

According to the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City: This type of bacteria causes many dangerous complications in humans. What is worrying is that this bacteria is resistant to many antibiotics, causing opportunistic infections in humans. It can cause endocarditis, respiratory tract infections, pneumonia, bloodstream infections, urinary tract infections, purulent meningitis and brain abscesses, osteomyelitis, skin infections, etc.
