According to SCMP, the business card listed Xi Jinping's title as chairman of the Shijiazhuang Food Association, the capital of Hebei province. He led a delegation representing the corn industry to visit Iowa, a major agricultural state in the US, in 1985.

After the business card went viral online, many people expressed surprise at Xi Jinping's position three decades ago.

The business card was also revealed in a news report by the state-run CCTV yesterday. The station interviewed Luca Berrone, who worked for the Iowa state government in 1985 and hosted the Chinese delegation.

Berrone showed a photo of the business card and recounted the details of the visit.

"He seemed to enjoy observing and was very curious about everything," Berrone said.

CCTV's Weibo account also posted photos of Xi Jinping and the Chinese delegation during his visit to the US years ago. Less than a year later, he was appointed deputy mayor of Xiamen, a coastal city in Fujian province.

Mr. Berrone invited the Chinese president to Seattle during his first official visit to the United States this week.
