The 48-year-old star was reportedly offered a whopping £68 million to reprise his role as James Bond. However, he turned down both the money and the big role. According to a source in the Daily Mail, the reason was because the role was too tiring for him.
His co-star in the previous three films, Dame Judi Dench – who played M in James Bond – believes Daniel needs a break. She told the Daily Mail: “I think he’s exhausted, absolutely exhausted.”
When asked who would be able to take on the role, Judi said: “I really don’t know. That question belongs to producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson!”
Meanwhile, according to another source - speaking about Daniel turning down James Bond: “He told everyone after filming that this was his last trip, but the film company felt he could still come back after Spectre if they offered him a big contract.”
“Daniel is done, pure and simple. He said stop after Spectre. They threw huge amounts of money at him but it simply wasn’t what Daniel wanted.”
