According to Mirror, an anonymous man while searching for metal at an old gold mine in Golden Triangle, Victoria, Australia on August 19 discovered a 4 kg solid gold nugget at a depth of 0.3 m underground.
He named the gold nugget "Friday's Joy", then immediately wrapped it in foil and hid it in the oven. The same person had dug up another smaller gold nugget, shaped like a tennis ball, weighing 255 grams, 0.6 meters below the ground the day before.
"At first I thought it was scrap, maybe an old horseshoe. When I started peeling off the clay and digging deeper, I couldn't believe my eyes. I had just dug up a huge gold nugget, a once-in-a-lifetime find. I absolutely couldn't believe that a nugget of gold this big still existed," Minelab.com quoted the man as saying.
The gold nugget is being stored in a bank vault while a replica is being made for auction. After his once-in-a-lifetime find, the man plans to buy a truck and travel around Australia, prospecting for gold and sightseeing.
